Track Listing

Glenn Fournier is a new Canadian Country singer who comes from Perth, Ontario with a very traditional sound to his music. From the onset of track one, you can hear that this debut album, From The Board Room To The Bar Room, is going to be a great album for the die-hard country traditionalist.

And quite beautifully the album waltzes straight into the opening upbeat track, From The Board Room To The Bar Room, reflecting Glenn's life in which he began working as a Banker for twenty years. Then follows a softly swinging melody called Not One, But Two that is just a perfect two-steping song.

The majority of the album holds true to the roots of country music. It lacks the heavy production of today's 'big drums' and synthesizers, and to be honest I have to say thank god for that! It's nice to hear some harmonica and peddle steel which you can actually hear and appreciate for once instead of having it crash, banged out by the synth. Track three, Sweet Loving Daddy is one such example of great simplicity working well.

The album is pretty much ballad heavy with a stance towards variation within the ballad theme. Straight down the middle and providing no surprises are songs like I'll Give You Love whilst you can instantly visualise the lovely slow couple dance ballads such as Almost Persuaded.

Tracks which particularly stood out for me were the brilliant Two Old Flames and Busted Love, the latter being a stomping honky tonk dancer which makes for a very nice closing track.

There's only one problem I have with this album. If you can't do a cover version of a song well, or indeed better the original, I would honestly suggest stearing well clear of recording them. In Glenn's case he totally and utterly massacres a classic Mavericks song called Oh What A Thrill. If lead singer of the Mavericks, Raul Malo, was dead, he'd definitely be turning in his grave at the cover version of his song which Glenn does. Sorry Glenn, this one just doesn't work and sounds very out of place from the rest of the album.

Aside from the one hiccup, From The Board Room To The Bar Room is a fine example of traditional, true to heart country music. Miko Productions who produced this album can be contacted at ovation1@sympatico.ca
